- The historic cable car to Augustusburg Castle in Brühl, Germany, has temporarily closed. The 100+ year old, 1.2-kilometer funicular system has shut down for three weeks for pending maintenance. This includes replacing a number of the rollers (sheaves) throughout the system, upgrading the Valley station to include a new heating system, and replacing several of the wooden sleepers with plastic duplicates. The system should be open to passengers again starting March 23rd.
- World’s longest cable car, a system stretching to the Boiling Lake in Roseau Valley, Dominica, is expected to be completed by December 2025. The cable car is planned to fully accessible to cater to everyone, including stayover visitors, families, and people with special mobility needs. The system will be constructed “with minimal impact on the environment” and will use helicopters to transport materials between stations. See a related Weekly Roundup here.
- New gondola included in tourist complex proposal in Samarkand, Uzbekistan. The Uzbek-Egyptian joint venture Arab Nihol Investors had a meeting at the Uzbekistan Embassy in Cairo to discuss the project. The first stage of the 42-hectare (104-acre) project site will be building an $18 million cable car. The following phases of the project will include a $32 million hotel and a $50 million sanatorium.
