Toulouse opened France’s longest cable car and first 3S public transit system in the world, Téléo. The system is three kilometers long and in 10 minutes connects the east and west sides of the city via three stations: the University Cancer Institute, Rangueil Hospital, and Paul Sabatier University. The system is designed by POMA and can move 2,000 people per hour. To celebrate the grand opening, the system provided free service the first weekend. Check out the official website for Téléo here.
The Commonwealth of Dominica in the Caribbean is planning to build the world’s longest cable car. The 6.6 kilometers long monocable detachable gondola (MDG) is expected to cost $275 million and be completed in two years. When constructed, the system will be recorded with Guinness World Records as the longest cable car in the world surpassing the Ba Na Cable Car in Vietnam. The new attraction will not only boost tourism but construction will generate 100 jobs and the cable car’s ongoing maintenance and operation an additional 100.
Snowbird released the first construction update on their tram replacement. The system is getting new cabins, return and drive bullwheels, drive machine and controls, and braking controls. The new aerial tram cabins have a rooftop balcony that can hold up to 14 people and floor-to-ceiling windows. The tram is expected to reopen in late June.
