- A new ropeway system in Nongtraw Village, India opened. The project was launched by the North East Slow Food and Agrobiodiversity Society (NESFAS) to help farmers transport their agricultural produce, livestock, and other materials. Prior to the ropeway system the only way in and out of Nongtraw was a 3,500 step stairway. The community also recently received the Best 2021 Sustainability Publication award by Hallbars and the Alfred Nobel Museum.
- As the ski season approaches, more and more areas are requiring vaccination. Examples include Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, Fernie Alpine Resort, and Kimberley Alpine Resort. Mount Norquay Ski Resort and Sunshine Village in Banff National Park is requiring either full vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test 72 hours prior. Nakiska Ski Resort in Kananaskis will only be accepting fully vaccinated guests.
- A cabin on the oldest cable car in the Czech Republic detached from the cable on Sunday. There was one staff member in the cabin when it crashed to the ground and unfortunately, they did not survive. The other cabin did not detach and was carrying 15 passengers who did not suffer physical injuries. It appeared the system was scheduled to close the following day for maintenance. Cause of the accident is still unknown.
- A draft plan is exploring the idea of a cable car linking Tapah and Ringlet in Cameron Highlands, Malaysia. The proposal includes four stations each with kiosks selling snacks and tickets to be potentially integrated with a hotel and feature other amenities. The project is estimated to be completed by 2035, but the draft plan is still waiting approval before it can proceed.
- The first cabin has been placed on the Snow King Gondola in Jackson, Wyoming. The system is one step closer to opening for the winter season. The gondola is expected to be inaugurated in mid-December when there is sufficient snow coverage. Check out a related Weekly Roundup here.
