- The gondola option for Burnaby Mountain has gained the support of the Simon Fraser University student society. The society president said it would provide fast, frequent, and reliable service and a long-term fix to the university’s transit challenge.
- Gondolas will transport people between towers on an oil rig being transformed into a giant theme park in Saudi Arabia. Over 1.6 million square feet, the park will include hotels, swimming pools, event spaces, rollercoasters, and other attractions.
- A cable car in Georgia that was shut down more than 30 years ago, is being restored after decades of neglect. The project will cost close to $16 million and link the lower part of Tbilisi to Mtatsminda Park. The cable car originally opened during the Soviet-era in 1959. Service stopped after an accident in 1990 that killed 19 people and injured over 40.
- The Guatemala government is anticipating congressional approval for construction of the Aerometro cable car system later this year. The system will connect the capital’s busiest districts and the municipalities of Mixco and Guatemala. The project, at 8.9km long, will be privately financed.
