- A letter was sent to the DC Mayor requesting $14 million in funding to continue the Georgetown-Rosslyn gondola project. The funds requested are for purchasing the $12 million site for the proposed gondola terminal and $2 million to complete the environmental impact study. The gondola is considered to be the most efficient and feasible way to solve the issue of Georgetown Metro access. The project construction costs are estimated between $90 and $110 million with an annual operating cost of $3.25 million.
- The Summit Lift at Snow King Mountain Resort in Wyoming operated for the last time on Sunday. It will be replaced with an eight-person gondola over the summer. The Summit Lift was built in 1981 when it replaced a double chair from the late 1950s.
- According to Japan Today, The Hakone Ropeway in Japan is a must-see. The floor-to-ceiling glass windows in the gondola allow for beautiful views and on clear days even a view of Mt Fuji. The bicable (2S) gondola crosses over the Owakudani valley.
- A cable car study about connecting the Grand Egyptian Museum’s Hotel and the Giza Plateau pyramids is currently underway. The cable car is intended to facilitate transit between the two attractions; currently visitors must walk or use a golf-buggy. The alignment is planned to run parallel to the Fayoum Road and will not have any impacts to the Giza Plateau pyramids.
