- Japan’s first permanent cable car, Air Cabin, is set to open in Yokohama in April. The cable car will have 36 eight-person cabins that will travel between Sakuragicho station and Shinko Pier in five minutes. It is expected to begin operation on April 22 and provide service from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. One way tickets for adults and children will be 1,000 yen and 500 yen respectively.
- Scientists at the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology discovered the risk of catching COVID-19 on a gondola is lower than being in an office. The study found that there is 100 times less chance of getting COVID-19 on a 12-minute gondola ride with open windows than during a normal working day in a small two-person office. The testing was done at the Engelberg-Trübsee-Titlis ski resort in central Switzerland.
- Sri Lankan Tourism Minister Prasanna Rantunga is working on declaring the city of Nuwara Eliya as a tourism zone. One of the major projects being planned to encourage tourism is a cable car that will connect the city to Nanu-Oya. The government will be investing 52 million euros into the cable car project.
- Tamarack Resort in Idaho is looking to make big changes in their master plan including a gondola and new lifts. The resort is currently in the process of submitting a special use permit to use U.S. Forest Service land. The master plan includes additional skiable terrain, expansion of snowmaking, a new lodge, expanded summer recreation, and six new lifts. The resort plans to install a 10-person gondola that would have a mid-station, three detachable quad lifts, and two fixed-grip triple lifts.
