- 49° North, near Spokane, Washington State, has reopened the Bonanza lift after installing new redundancies. In December 2020, a chair detached from the haul rope causing minor injuries to two guests. The annual lift inspections found nothing out of the ordinary, but close investigation after the incident pointed to a failed cotter pin. The cotter pin is part of the mechanism that keeps the chair fixed to the rope. Another chair that uses the same attachment mechanisms is being retrofitted as well.
- The architect Marchisciana Saverio Adriano presented his proposal for the ‘Scylla and Charybdis’ Bridge, connecting Sicily and Southern Italy. It would not only be the longest bridge in the world, but also have an integrated cable car system. The cable car portion of the project would be above the bridge and have two intermediate stations at each tower. Renderings of the project demonstrate the project’s uniqueness and complexity.
- Platak Ski Resort in Croatia is planning a new cable car. The resort was one of the first to open up during the pandemic in this part of Europe and has attracted skiers over 200 kilometers away. There are few details about the new cable car, but the resort anticipates construction to begin in the summer.
