- Park City, Utah is considering an aerial gondola network. The City hired private consultants to conduct a preliminary feasibility study to explore connecting four major locations via a gondola. One of the central goals in Park City’s Vision 2020 is transportation innovation. The system’s capital cost is estimated to be $64 million with an operations and maintenance cost of $3.5 million annually.
- Three new ropeway systems have been installed in Bakuriani, Georgia. The equipment and installation were completed by Doppelmayr Garaventa Group. All three are six-seater chair lifts with a capacity of 5,400 people per hour. They will be used for the 2023 World Freestyle Championship.
- The Palm Springs Tram board approved taking a $15 million loan to help with this year’s budget. Due to the pandemic, revenue is down $10.6 million compared to last year. The board is also considering raising ticket prices to help with operation and maintenance costs.
- St Helier, Jersey, a British Crown Dependency, is considering a cable car system to connect to a new hospital in an environmentally friendly way. The project is in the early stages and the exact location of the hospital is still being discussed.
- The Town of Mountain Village near Telluride, Colorado is converting gondola cabins into dining cabins for the winter. Due to COVID-19 occupancy restrictions for area restaurants, 20 gondola cabins are being refurbished and placed in the base plaza. The cabins will have heating and ventilation systems, cushioned seats, dining tables, and more.
