- The history of the Jasper SkyTram in Whistler, Canada showcases the beginning of aerial tramways in Canada. The idea of building an aerial tramway to Whistlers’ Mountain came from two avid hikers familiar with New Hampshire’s Cannon Mountain Tramway, the only tramway of its kind in North America at the time. In 1964, construction of the system was completed in just five months despite language barriers between German experts and local engineers. Today there are plans in the works to update the 56-year-old system.
- The Mountain Tap Brewery in Steamboat Springs, Colorado is adding gondola cabins as part of their dining experience. The local brewery purchased three cabins from Killington Ski Area in Vermont. The cabins are intended to increase outdoor seating while safely social distancing customers and staff. The eight-person cabins have the original lift seats with new flooring and a custom table and are fully equipped with heating, lights, and speakers.
- The Jerusalem cable car project is currently at a standstill until it can be demonstrated the cable car will boost tourism in Jerusalem’s Old City. Documentation was due to the court on September 6, but the deadline has been extended to October 1. Although the project has not been approved, the Jerusalem Development Authority is proceeding with the project by inviting bidders to the pre-qualification stage of a tender for the design, construction, operation, maintenance, and delivery of a cable car.
