Medellin’s Metrocable in Colombia, named the world’s top transportation system eight years ago, has improved the city’s standard of living. Since the cable car network was installed there has been a reduction in crime, violence, and opportunity inequalities. The cable cars are also a top attraction for tourists, with panoramic views of the city available for approximately a dollar.
The Dubrovnik cable car in Croatia has had four-legged visitors during its closure. The cable car is currently closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but special bovine visitors are trespassing to overlook Dubrovnik.
Pittsburg’s Duquesne Incline is acting as a moving billboard to help stop the spread of the coronavirus. The incline reminds residents to wear face masks and stop COVID-19. Another sign, usually displayed during football season, reads “deeee fense” as the two incline cars pass each other.
Universal in Florida is considering similar strides for transportation as Walt Disney World’s Skyliner to connect their parks. A recent patent published by Universal presented their idea of connecting Universal parks and potentially to Universal Orlando Resort Hotels. The patent includes images of the gondolas and a station.
Tatry Mountain Resort in Europe has reopened their cable cars. The cars were shut down March 13 due to COVD-19, but are now open to hikers. The number of passengers allowed per car has been reduced and all passengers must wear a mask.
