The Sea to Sky Gondola reached another milestone this month with the arrival of 30 new cabins. Located in British Columbia, Canada, in August of 2019 the system’s haul rope wires were deliberately cut by a vandal, causing the cabins to crash to the ground. Since then, crews have been working to re-establish the popular tourist attraction; the new haul rope has already been installed. The gondola is estimated to reopen in the Spring of 2020 and include security system enhancements.
In India, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is working to reduce travel times between villages by replacing ferry rides with a new ropeway system. The aerial ropeway would directly connect to the Metro 2A line, providing important last mile connectivity. It was also noted the Mumbai Port Trust is planning construction of what would be India’s longest ropeway, intended to boost tourism. It would travel 8km in 14 minutes connecting Sewree to the Elephanta Island.

The Zagreb Gondola expects to open May 31, 2020. The government of the city of Zagreb, Croatia finalized the financing for construction of this project on December 18th. The gondola will travel 5.02 km to the highest peak of the Medvednica mountain in north Zagreb. The system, with 84 10-person cabins, is designed to carry 1,500 people per hour per direction (pphpd).
