- The Sea to Sky Gondola in British Columbia, Canada has increased its capacity by 50%, growing the aerial ropeway from 20 cabins to 30. With each cabin able to hold 8 people, it now has the capacity to carry 900 passengers per hour on the 10-minute ride into the backcountry just south of Squamish and Stawamus Chief.
- An Australian development group has proposed a $54 million cable car project that includes an amphitheater on top of Wellington Mountain, as a well as a café and restaurant. The city council for Hobart, the capital of the island state of Tasmania in Australia, where the mountain lies, has 45 days to respond to the private sector proposal, which requests no public funds.
- A rare inclined elevator proposal has received favorable review from a group of Portland, Oregon area leaders. It would connect downtown Portland to a hilltop medical campus. Transit options in this United States city already include an aerial tram.
- A Nepal proposed cable car project in Gosainkunda, Rasuwa, could become the second highest in the world at 4,200 meters above sea level. It would also be one of the world’s longest with more than 50 towers across a nearly 16km stretch. The area includes sacred alpine freshwater lakes that are a popular attraction for both holy and recreational reasons. As the next step, two developers have applied to prepare environmental impact assessments.
