Leitner ropeways is proud to be the first company to introduce 3S gondola technology to Northern Europe. Voss Resorts, one of Norway’s top ski and leisure destinations, will be soon connected by a new 3S system that is scheduled to open in summer 2019.
While this aerial lift primarily serves a recreational function for winter and summer sport enthusiasts, the gondola’s bottom station will be built as a part of an integrated transport terminal. With the ropeway platform located on the third floor, passengers will be able to seamlessly connect to and from buses (located on the ground level) and rail service (located on the first floor). From the valley station, passengers will hop aboard one of thirteen ultra-chic Pininfarina “Symphony” cabins (35 person capacity).
Up to 1,500 passengers per hour will be able to ride the 2,000m long ropeway which transports riders over an elevation of 742m.
Alongside a mountain side restaurant, the top station area will offer visitors a host of recreational opportunities for both summer and winter activities. The new 3S system not only replaces the resort’s old aerial tram (Hangursbanen) but will also complement Voss’ overall €31 million modernization program which improves the site’s hiking trails and ski areas.
Leaders in 3S Ropeways
3S technology is the most advanced and robust ropeway system available in the world today. Compared to other aerial ropeways, 3S systems have the highest wind resistance and highest line capacities. They have the ability to operate in wind speeds of up to 100km/h and can carry 6,000 persons per hour per direction.
So far, Leitner ropeways has built and designed 3S gondolas throughout the world with systems in Bolzano (Italy), Morzine/Avoriaz (France), Stubaital Valley (Austria), and Klein Matterhorn (Switzerland). This latest project in Voss is the continuation of Leitner ropeways’ success in designing 3S systems to solve challenging transportation problems.
