A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of urban gondolas, cable cars and cable propelled transit:
- A cable car proposal, called the Gold Coast Skyride, has surfaced for the Gold Coast Hinterland in Queensland, Australia. According to the reports online, the ropeway will be a 9km, $100 million project which travels from Neranwood to Spinbrook. Project proponents hope to have more success this time around as a previous proposal in 1998 was unsuccessful.
- The cable car systems in La Paz-El Alto have made it their goal to generate 25% of their revenues from advertising and renting out storefront. There are currently 35-40 companies who are interested in operating and renting space from the various cable car stations. New services that may be included are coffee shops, gift stores, jewelry and much more.
- Tender results for the Brest Cable Car (Téléphérique) is set to be announced next month.

Oh ist boring to read about a region of the gold coast, where the fox and the hare bid each other goodnight. Let’s report about cable-propelled transit of Russia. At Nizhny Novgorod 2011 a cable-car across the Wolga was built (between the suburb “Bor” and “Nizhny Novgorod”). Commuters now can save a good one hour of detour twice a day. They acquired good experience in handling the cable-car and 2018 FIFA World Cup (soccer) will be held (among others) in Nizhny Novgorod, so they want more cable-cars (like Algier, Medellín or Caracas too). They want a cable-car Awtosawod – Schtscherbinki (up to 6,4 km, 1.000 to 1.500 passengers per hour, investment 1,5 billion Russian ruble), a cable-car from the stadium to a higher part of the city (up to 2 km, 1.000 passengers per hour, 850 million ruble) and a cable-car between Metro station “Saretschnaja” and Prospekt Gagarin (up to 3,1 km, 1.000 to 1.500 passengers per hour, up to 950 million ruble). 1.000.000 Russian ruble = about 26.000 CAD or about 23.000 US$ (November 1st 2014)

Great link Guenther. I think we reported this last year. https://www.gondolaproject.com/2013/11/15/weekly-roundup-cpt-projects-pitched-for-2018-world-cup-in-russia/. But haven’t heard much about its progress. It’s definitely a very interesting project to say the least!
