A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of urban gondolas, cable cars and cable propelled transit:
- The Brest Téléphérique project in France is reportedly back on track after a second project management tender went out this week. During the first round, several companies overbid the maximum €15 million budget. The 460m system will cross the Penfeld river while connecting the new Capucins district to the a château in the downtown. Trip time: 3 minutes; Capacity: 650 persons per hour.
- While the International Horticultural Exhibition in Berlin (IGA 2017) is still a few years away, guests had the opportunity to test out the latest in chic and urban cabin designs this week. The interior’s are fully decked out with sweet orange leather seats and panoramic glass floors.
- Constantine, Algeria is already home to a spectacular Cable Propelled Transit line spanning the Rhumel Gorge. This week it appears the Minister has announced that the construction of 2 new cable cars will start in 15 days!
- Having just opened for a little over 2 weeks, the Oued Koriche-Bouzaréah Téléphérique in Algeria has apparently suffered a few operational setbacks due to “uncivil” passenger behaviour. Reports suggest that groups of frenzied riders blocked the gondola doors while others threw stones at passing cabins. Perhaps operators can learn a thing or two from La Paz’s Mi Teleferico campaign which has helped cultivate a sense of ownership in the cable car systems.
- And more on the Oued Koriche-Bouzaréah Téléphérique: TSA Algeria takes us on a photo journey aboard the cable car and gives us an aerial view of a neighbourhood even many locals have yet to see.
- Ever wanted to ride a cable car from one country to another? Well it turns out you can. Just head over to Africa and ride the Limpopo River Cable Car. The system will transport adventurists from South Africa to Botswana for a budget breaking USD $3.25!
