A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of urban gondolas, cable cars and cable propelled transit:
- Oued Koriche and Bouzaréah, two suburbs is the Algerian capital of Algiers, is expected to see the inauguration of its much delayed cable car — Le téléphérique Oued Koreiche-Bouzaréah. The 3km long system will reduce travel times from 30 minutes to 11 minutes and will have a capacity of 3,000 pphpd.
- Four ropeway manufacturers are interested in building the Oruro cable car in Bolivia. These companies include Doppelmayr, Poma and two other builders. Oruru, a city of approximately 264,000 residents, is planning to implement a purely tourist cable lift. The $18.5 million system is expected to have a capacity of 1,000 pphpd and will travel a route length of 900m.
- During the holiday season in Venezuela, over 12,000 people travelled up on the Warairepano cable car to access amenities at the top of the national park. Operators say that demand for the cable car triples during holidays and that service must be temporarily halted when the park capacity is exceeded.
