A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- If you’re a fan of Harry Potter, you might know that the Hogwarth’s Express has been recreated at the Orlando Universal Studios. What you might not know is that the train, is actually a 500 ton funicular designed by Garaventa in Switzerland!
- In order to spur more tourism, the mayor of Pörtschach, a municipality in the Austrian state of Carinthia, wants to build a $22 million cable car to the Pyramidenkogel Tower. The Tower has reportedly attracted 350,000 visitors already.
- A cable car system was proposed by a few Swiss students for Laventille, one of Trinidad’s poorest wards/neighbourhoods. While there were speculations that the proposal was in the midst of being approved, the Planning Minister has refuted the claims.
