A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- Work on the other two gondola lines in La Paz are continuing at a torrent pace. Helicopters arrived in the City yesterday to help install the cables for the Linea Amarilla (Yellow Line). At 3.74km, this line will be Mi Teleférico’s second longest cable car system.
- After just ten days in service, the Yenimahalle-Şentepe Teleferiği in Ankara, has already transported 150,000 passengers. After the second phase of the system is opened, a total of 108 cabins will be in service. Operators predict that up to 80,000 daily passengers will one day ride the gondola.
- The Teleférico da Providência opened a little later than expected this week on Wednesday rather than on Sunday, as originally planned. The system is estimated to transport about 1,000 people per hour and will be integrated with the Transbrasil BRT. The gondola will undergo testing for the next two months while a precise date for full operations has yet to be determined.
