A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- The Teleférico da Providência in Rio de Janeiro is scheduled to finally open on June 29. While construction of the system was completed last May, an operator for the cable car was not found until recently. The 3 station, 721 meter urban gondola will improve transportation options for residents living in Central do Brasil and Zona Portuária.
- Under the working program, “Trabajo con Altura” or “Working with Heights”, 58 lucky university students in La Paz, Bolivia will be employed by Mi Teleferico. They will be responsible for improving customer relations and helping with day-to-day activities. This program will be expanded once the Yellow and Green lines open.
- Whether or not a cable car is built in Hamburg will come down to a referendum in the Hamburg-Mitte district on August 24. The 1.5km, €35 million system’s proposed route is to travel over the Elbe river with a journey time of 7 minutes.
