A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- The world’s largest manufacturer of ropeway systems, Doppelmayr, has proposed an urban cable car for Cebu City in the Philippines. It has been reported that a BRT system has been deferred and that more details on the cable car may be available after staff members meet to discuss the concept.
- The BART Oakland Airport Connector is expected to begin service this fall and is currently undergoing testing. To better inform the public of the system’s progress, the transit agency has recently released a great information clip on Youtube.
- Following a 15-day annual maintenance service, service on the famous Hello-Kitty themed Maokong Gondola has now resumed. Major components were repaired and/or replaced which included drive shafts, hydraulic cylinders, motors and sheaves.
- Not sure if it’s newsworthy but since it’s Friday, this probably deserves a mention. This week legendary wrestler Hulk Hogan was spotted riding the Emirates Air Line in London to the excitement of some fellow passengers.
