A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- Officials in Magdalena Contreras, one of Mexico City’s boroughs, announced that the city may soon see the country’s first urban cable car. The system, similar to the ones seen in other South American cities, will be built to serve hillside communities.
- Despite being opened for less than 1 month, the Red Line in La Paz-El Alto’s new cable car has already attracted 200,000 riders during its free trial run. The pre-commercial phase of the cable car will last until Sunday before commencing full operations next week.
- The Portland Aerial Tram starts its Summer Sundays program on May 18 where kids accompanied with parents get to ride for free! Tram tours and other fun activities will also be available starting at 1pm.
