A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas and cable propelled transit:
- Look out London, the host of the 2020 Olympics is now beginning a feasibility study which may see a cable car in Tokyo’s upscale Ginza district. The urban gondola is proposed to connect Shiodome to Toyosu across Tokyo Bay. The system will be purely a toy for tourists and estimated to cost a whopping $210 million.
- A developer in Bath, England has proposed a cable car system connecting Foxhill to the Bath Spa Railway Station. Few details have been released so far but final plans will be submitted next year.
- Another cable car plan in the UK also surfaced this week but this time in County Fermanagh (Northern Ireland). Local organizers hope that the gondola will spur additional tourism and cement Fermanagh as one of the top 3 destinations in Northern Ireland.
