A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- Bianca Freire-Medeiros, Senior Lecturer CPDOC analyzes the impact of Rio’s urban cable cars from a sociology perspective. She describes some of the effects increased tourism has had on favela neighbourhoods.
- If you happen to be a resident of London (namely, Borough of Greenwich and Borough of Newham) and haven’t had the chance to ride the cable car, then you’re in luck. Starting February 14, locals and up to 3 guests can ride the Emirates Air Line for half-price (£1.70). Transport for London hopes this will help increase ridership.
- Whister Blackcomb is set to spend $6 million to upgrade its fleet of cabins for the Village Gondola. The cabins has been serving passengers more than 25 years now and will be replaced with new carriers made by Sigma.
