A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- First opened in 2006 — that’s more than 7 years ago — the Portland Aerial Tram has officially transported 10 million passengers. As part of the celebrations, a very lucky rider and 3 friends will be treated to a special dinner party on the Tram. And did I mention, the ride only last 3 minutes so I hope they eat fast!
- The cable for the Red Line in La Paz, Bolivia’s massive CPT network is being installed this week. This system will be the first of 3 cable lifts that’s scheduled to open in 2014.
- An article from Rio On Watch describes some of the successes and challenges still faced by the Teleferico do Alemão in Rio de Janeiro. It also touches on the two other cable car projects in the City, namely the Morro da Providencia system and the planned Rocinha system.
