A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- Plans for a cable car has emerged in the Australian coastal city of Gold Coast. The concept is to connect the city’s airport to the nearby mountain/suburb of Springbrook. This is not the first time a gondola system has been proposed as the city has seen several unsuccessful conceptual designs in the past.
- Telluride’s gondola is set to become even greener this week. Solar panels will be installed as part of the system’s Green Gondola Project. While the $30,000 10-kilowatt system won’t dramatically alter energy consumption patterns, this program is part of an ongoing initiative to make the gondola as efficient as possible.
- Officials in Algeria have reviewed tender submissions for the implementation of new cable car lines in Constantine and will soon announce the selected proponents.
