A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- Peru may soon see its first aerial tramway. A 5km system is proposed to be built in Choquequirao, the “twin sister” of Macchu Picchu. This ropeway system will traverse the deep canyon of the Apurimac River and will dramatically improved site access, from a reportedly 2 day hike to a 15 minute cable car ride.
- The Wulong Cable Car, another scenic ropeway is set to open soon in China’s Wudang Mountain in Hubei province. The $32.68 million system is 3.6km long and can travel at a maximum speed of 6 m/s.
- Plans for a cable car in Saipan — the largest island in the Northern Mariana Islands — appears to be making progress. The system will connect Sugar King Park to the top Mount Tapochau.
