A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- Reports indicate that La Paz, Bolivia’s Teleférico Metropolitano continues to make steady progress. Out of the 3 systems being built, the Red Line is the closest to completion with 50% of its towers and 100% of its electromechanical equipment now ready. Construction of 3 stations is scheduled to begin next week.
- The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway was temporarily closed on Tuesday this week when a brush fire started nearby the lower station. The causes of the fire are still unknown, but after the blaze was contained, the Tramway was once again operational the next day.
- To date, the Metrocable Line K in Medellin has arguably been the most successful urban gondola line in the world. Crime has decreased and the murder rates fell from a high of 350 per 100,000, down to 50. However, with this improvement in transit connectivity, rental rates are now increasing and could potentially make the barrio community less and less affordable.

Any chance you can find a version of the Medellin story in English?
Wish I did. Probably best you can do is just translate it on Google.
Hey guys,
thank you for the interesting info!
Just one translation mistake in the Medellin-Story, the homicide rate fell by a seventh (following the article) – so it’s at 50 per 100,000.
Fixed! Thanks Max!
