A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- Reports from Venezuela indicate that the Cabletren, a bottom supported CPT system, is scheduled to open soon in Petare, a community just east of Caracas. This 2.1km, 5 station line is capable of transporting 3,000 pphpd at speeds of 30km/h. It is estimated to benefit up to 150,000 residents by offering them a quick connection to the city’s subway.
- About 600 people gathered in Rocinha, one of Rio’s largest slums, to protest against the recent approval of the cable car. The marchers felt that the need to provide proper sanitation should take a higher priority than improving transport infrastructure.
- A feasibility study to examine several new crossings was released in Nantes, France this week. Among the analysis of tunnels, and bridges, the city may study a cable car that connects to l’île de Nantes — an island located in the centre of the city that’s surrounded by the Loire River.
- Given the many French cities that are in the process of planning and designing cable cars, France TV Info takes a closer look into the many benefits of CPT.
