A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- A cable car project is being considered in Birmingham, England. It looks to shuttle riders between three rail stations.
- A 2.4km gondola system may soon be under construction in Kathmandu, Nepal. The proposed system will link Thankot — a large village west of Kathmandu — to Chandragiri Hill — a tourist destination which offers views of Mount Everest.
- More discussions on the Austin Gondola proposal. Unfortunately, the concept has yet to be fully embraced by City’s transportation Director. His concern was the classic “no city wants to be first problem“. Perhaps, we or some of our readers should direct his attention our website (“Learn About Cable Transit“)!.
- Milford Sound — one of New Zealand’s most famous tourist destinations — may have a gondola connection in the future. Out of twelve transport options being analyzed, a 12.6 km aerial cable car was given the highest ranking.
