A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of cable cars, urban gondolas, and cable propelled transit:
- In Brisbane, Australia, a gaming group has announced a $1.3 billion resort proposal which includes a cable car system as its centerpiece. It’s reported that this attraction has looked to the Sentosa Resort in Singapore for inspiration, which of course is home to the Singapore Cable Car.
- Festivities were held this week in Killington, Vermont this week in celebration of the world’s first cow powered gondola.
- Vail’s new gondola, called One, will publicly open to all skiers today.
- Petition to keep the Koblenz Rheinseilbahn reaches 28,000 signatures.

I don’t think that’s a positive step for Brisbane at all. For “all inclusive resort” read “We want all your money, and no surrounding small businesses are going to see any of that money”. It’s not anything like the premise for this site, of integrating aerial gondolas into the urban fabric and transit systems. And when they’ve said they’ve outgrown the old Treasury building they just want to put more poker machines in. There’s already good transport systems linking the north and southside of the river, many bridges and footbridges, ferry links and a bicycle share scheme. Brisbane City Council and the Queensland Government should tell this consortium of financial parasites to get well and truly stuffed.
