Olympic Gold Medallist in Urban Planning?

Post by nickchu

Let me introduce, the 1936 silver medalist in Town Planning, Charles Downing Lay. Image from Wikipedia.

While watching the London Olympics this week, it reminded me of how I’ve always dreamed of being an Olympian. But given my limited athletic prowess during my childhood years, those aspirations were immediately crushed and I’ve largely come to terms with myself that I’ll never run the 100m in under 10 seconds or score a 9.5 in diving. Accepting my fate as a planner was hard, until today.

That’s because, apparently, Town Planning was once an Olympic event! Not sure how a planner prepares for this, but if need be, I’m glad I still remember the steps for the good ol’ Rational Comprehensive Model of Planning!
