After yesterday’s release of the Burnaby Mountain Gondola Business Case, there were so many articles and commentaries on the project around the internet, we thought it prudent to break from our typical structure and dedicate today’s Roundup exclusively to some of the more interesting reactions to that project:
- The Burnaby News Leader has comments on the project from Burnaby’s Acting Mayor Don Johnston.
- Burnaby Now has an excellent assortment of reaction interviews with project stakeholders including those from from Glen Porter, spokesman for Citizens Opposed to the Gondola; Gordon Harris, the president and CEO of the SFU Community Trust; and SFU regional planning expert Gordon Price.
- The Atlantic Cities has an interview with Translink manager of infrastructure Jeffrey Busby. Among other things, Mr. Busby makes the incredibly wise observation that “the technology is less important than the problem it’s solving.” Amen, to that.

Its interesting, because Translink and mayor says that the Gondola project (that is dimensioned for a big increase of traffic) will cost 10% more over 25 years of the CURRENT bus service … but what will cost upgrade the bus to cope whith traffic?
Seems that the choice is saving now to pay much more in future.
