A few highlights from around the world of Urban Gondolas and Cable Propelled Transit:
- A letter to the editor at Burnaby Now suggests a hidden motivation lurking behind the controversial Burnaby Mountain Gondola. A local blogger, meanwhile, took notes during the public engagement process and posted them online.
- The Sierra Club wins a legal dispute that will release dozens of documents related to the controversial Ogden Utah Gondola. You can find all the documents on the Sierra Club’s website here.
- Inspired by the somewhat controversial idea of using gondolas in Calgary, Alberta, Calgary Alderman Shane Keating goes one step further and suggests an Aerobus system for Southeast Calgary. Regular readers of The Gondola Project know that an urban gondola is quite different from an Aerobus(see here and here).
- Continuing with the controversy and Aerobus theme, Cambridge City Council wants the region of Waterloo, Ontario to consider the cheaper (and more controversial) Aerorail/Aerobus over the region’s Light Rail Plan.

I am glad that I am not represented by Shane Keating. It’s not the first time he’s made public announcements about public transit without understanding it first.
Personally, Trent, I would WANT to be represented by someone willing to step out of the box long enough to examine alternatives that saved taxpayers money, were efficient, didn’t involve massive disruption during the build, and above all, could handle Calgary’s weather extremes. But I’m curioust: What in particular (about Aerobus and its application to Calgary) does Mr. Keating not understand?
