A few highlights from around the world of Urban Gondolas and Cable Propelled Transit:
- Translink announces a public consultation process in regards to Vancouver’s Burnaby Mountain Gondola. It’s been reported that there are privacy concerns from nearby residents. This should be a good opportunity for both sides to hear each other out and (hopefully) find some common ground.
- Despite Bay Area Rapid Transit board member Robert Rathburn’s attempt to kill the always-controversial Oakland Airport Connector, reports now indicate the agency has no plans to stop the project as it would be too costly to do so.
- The Kolmården Safari Park in Sweden gets equipped with giraffe, tiger and zebra themed gondolas (seriously).
- It appears that Rio’s Complexo do Alemao gondola system is finally set to open next month. And it seems that we’re finally beginning to learn more about this system – which is good considering when it opens it will be the world’s most aggressive and large-scale urban gondola ever.
