A few highlights from around the world of Urban Gondola transit systems and Cable Propelled Transit:
- Greenwich Council approves the London Thames Cable Car. This was the second of two approvals needed for the system to move forward. For all intents and purposes, it looks like this thing is a go. Fares, apparently, have still not been set.
- Low-tech Magazine has written an exhaustive and fantastic history of ropeway transport for cargo called Aerial ropeways: automatic cargo transport for a bargain.
- Blogger Jeffrey Wisniewski discusses the Hercules Aerial Tram, dismissing it as “completely impractical, and its study . . . represents a departure from priorities, and reality.” Like the study he references, he unfortunately conflates Aerial Trams with Gondolas (they’re different things, people). He also misses the fact that the Hercules Aerial Tram study was riddled with errors.
- Burnaby Now reporter Janaya Fuller-Evans reports that the Burnaby Mountain gondola plans are moving forward. The headline image used? An Aerial Tram (they’re different things, people).
