LEITNER Builds Longest 3S Gondola Lift in Alps

The new 4.6km Eisgratbahn is a true marvel of engineering and performance. Built by LEITNER Ropeways, this system marks the first 3S gondola lift designed with the company’s groundbreaking DirectDrive technology.

With the new cable car, wait times for skiers are reduced as the system has a capacity of 3,014 persons and a speedy trip time of just 12 minutes. The sleek and futuristic cabins were produced in partnership with Pininfarina, the designer of Ferrari and Maserati sports cars. Each of the 48 cabins are equipped with wireless connectivity and offers ample space for up to 32 passengers.

Local newspaper Stubaier Bergbahnen KG reacted enthusiastically to the opening of the cable car and described the project as follows:

“With the new 3S Eisgratbahn we not only realized a groundbreaking project in Austria’s ropeway business within a very short construcion period – but we also did the largest individual investment of a ski area spending 64 million Euros. This project could be realized within less than 16 months thanks to a well-thought-out planning and an exemplary collaboration of all decision-makers, construction companies and employees of the Stubaier Gletscherbahnen. It really is a milestone.”
