A quick look at some of the things that happened this week in the world of urban gondolas, cable cars and cable propelled transit:
- Medellin, Colombia has officially announced the construction of its 3rd Metrocable line. The 2.5km urban cable car will benefit 350,000 residents and will link the neighbourhood of Pichacho to the metro line. The project is estimated to cost $90 million USD and could be complete in 18-24 months.
- The Yellow Line (Línea Amarilla) in La Paz, Bolivia will start its commercial operations next Monday (September 15, 2014). This line is the longest of the 3 cable car systems in the city.
- Curo, the developers for a new suburb in Bath, England have reportedly revealed renderings for their cable car development plans. These designs were created after a year of community meetings and workshops. The cable car will link Foxhill to the city centre. Detailed plans can be viewed this weekend at the St. Andrew’s Community Church.
- A feasibility study examining a cable car connection up to Phu Kradung Mountain is almost complete. Phu Kradung is a famous 1316m high peak in Northern Thailand and attracts approximately 60,000 people each year. Initial estimates believe that up to 7,000,000 people will visit the park per year if a cable car is built.
- To celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival, forty-nine families were invited to a mooncake making competition aboard the Singapore Cable Car. A new record was set after 202 mooncakes were created over a span of 1.7km and 30 minutes.
